The Berwick Public Library has wonderful collections for children and adults, comfortable spaces for enjoying books and periodicals, and special activities covering a variety of interests. All are welcome. Library cards are free to all Berwick residents. We are in the Southern Maine Library District.

2009 In Review

Happy New Year to all our wonderful patrons. Thank you for making 2009 a record setting year for us. Our statistics for the year show that we had 3,400 more materials circulating in 2009 than in 2008. Since 2006, when this beautiful building was open for the first full year, our statistics show that our Circulation figures have made a steady increase and were 5,200 more in 2009 than in 2006.

Annual Book Sale

Save the date for the Berwick Public Library Annual Book Sale in March. The sale will run from Tuesday, March 16, Wednesday, March 17, Friday, March 18, until Saturday, March 19. The Library needs volunteers to bring books up from downstairs and then, those that don't sell back downstairs. A troop of Boy or Girl Scouts would be most welcomed.

High Schoolers, do you need Community Service credits? Help us out at the Library for our Book Sale. If you would like to volunteer for set up or break down or during our sale,

please contact the Library at 207-698-5737. Books for sale will be located on tables at the back of the Library. Watch for further details!

Friends of the Berwick Public Library

The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Monday, February 1 at 9:30 A.M. in the Library. The Friends are planning to publish a cookbook, the sales to benefit the Library. Please contact the Library at 207-698-5737 with any recipes you would like to submit. The Friends welcome anyone who would like to participate. There are no restrictions on age or gender. There are no dues to belong to this fun and vibrant group.

Tax Season

Tax season is coming. Federal tax forms are on display by the Library entrance. Maine State forms will be NOT be available anywhere. If you filed last year you should receive your form by mail. You may call the State of Maine at 207-624-7894 or go on-line at www.maine.gov/revenue/forms/FormsReq_form.html to order forms. We can download and print forms for 20¢ per page. If you have any questions please ask at the circulation desk.

Featured Artist: Linda Williams

Linda Williams, the Art Teacher at the Vivian Hussey School, will be displaying her artwork for January and February. Mrs. Williams is showing her beautiful watercolor, oil, and acrylic paintings, a hand painted silk panel with cotton batik quilting, unique illuminated collaged boxes and some copper pieces. All pieces are for sale and a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Library.

Thanksgiving sale a great success

Kay says:

The pre-Thanksgiving bake sale brought in $476 for the Friends! We could have sold more baked goods, especially pies People were buying 4 & 5 pies at a time. We totally sold out of everything in under 3 hours!! Thank you to all who baked, or worked, or both. A special thank you to my co-chair, Sue Shaw.

This year the library was represented at last week's Halloween "Trunk-n-Treat" by Eleanor Murphy and Laurie Jackson. They gave away many of our overflow of children's books, as well as 200 pencils and bookmarks.
