Using Your Library Card for eBooks

Did you know you can use your library card to borrow free audio books and eBooks? Using your e-reader, tablet, laptop, or phone, simply visit the Maine OverDrive site at to access the Maine InfoNet Download Library. You can log into the site using our library name and your card number. Overdrive can also be accessed by downloading the Overdrive app on your tablet, e-reader, or phone. By using the app, you will be able to access your book downloads even when you're not online, which is great if you'll be traveling or listening to an audio book in the car.

Once you're logged in, you'll be able to explore thousands of eBooks and audio books available for download. You can look at suggested collections from Overdrive (like "Best Sellers" and "Most Popular"), look up specific titles and authors, or search based on genre.

A great feature of Overdrive is that you are able to make a wish list of books you want to read in the future. There are two ways to save a book to your wish list. If you are going through the search results and recognize a book by its title and cover, you can simply hit the the plus sign underneath the book cover next to the word "Borrow" (or "Place on Hold" in some cases). This is the fastest and easiest way to add books to your list as it doesn't require you to leave the search results.

If you want to learn more about a book to see if its something you might be interested in reading, click on the small circle with three dots in it on the bottom right of the book cover and then choose "view details". You will be taken to another page containing all the information about the book and, on that page, you will see a link saying "add to wish list".

On the details page, you can also choose to borrow a book or place it on a hold if it's not currently available. When borrowing a book, be sure to pay attention to the loan period. In most cases, you will have the option to change the loan period from one week to two weeks. Unlike physical books, digital books are returned automatically at the end of the loan period. Once you've downloaded your book, though, you can also visit the "Loans" page of your account to return a book early.

Having access to Overdrive is a great addition to your library card. If you need help using OverDrive, check out the Getting Started page for further instruction or stop by the circulation desk!

Happy reading!
