In September, Berwick for a Lifetime hosted a panel discussion with first responders in our community.
The emergency response panel consisted of the Town Manager and representatives from the Berwick Fire Department, the Berwick Police department, Stewarts Ambulance Service, and Berwick for a Lifetime. This talk focused on responding to emergencies involving senior citizens, people with dementia or Alzheimer's, and people of any age who live with communication challenges. The discussion also addressed what training and/or procedures our first responders are currently taking to identify people struggling with communication/memory issues and their inability to understand a life threatening situation such as fires, medical emergencies, and wandering events. This conversation also included information about what individuals and families can do to help prepare their loved ones (or their homes) to be ready for emergencies.
