Author Talk with Edith Netter
Author Edith Netter visited the library at the end of May to discuss her new book, The House at Schumannstrasse 7: A Holocaust Survivor’s Story, told in the voice of her grandmother, Alice. The book follows a German Jewish family through two world wars, the rise of Nazism, Kristallnacht, and the efforts that eventually allowed family members to escape Nazi Europe. Berwick for a Lifetime's Aging Well Resource Center has joined up with AARP's Senior Planet to provide technology education opportunities for aging adults. Led by Circulation Manager Patrick Harrison, who is also a certified Senior Planet instructor, this informational session focused on iPhone privacy settings. High & Dry Musical Performance
Berwick residents Janet and Dennis Boyd of High & Dry performed at the library in May. The duo have been performing together for ten years and cover songs from artists like Jim Croce, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Bob Seger, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, and more. "Liberty's Prison" Author Talk
Maine Department of Corrections Commissioner Randall Liberty visited the library to talk about his book Liberty's Prison. Liberty shared stories about his journey to becoming Commissioner, including his experience having an incarcerated father. He also talked about the Maine Model of Corrections, which focuses on humanizing the correctional experience, fostering collaboration between staff and residents, and preparing individuals for successful reentry into society.
