Throughout the summer, we will be investigating six pieces of evidence that our staff members collected in the woods after their encounter with a mysterious creature. It will be up to you to determine if each piece of evidence belongs to local wildlife, a known cryptid, or something entirely new. To help you with your investigation, we'll be visited by several wildlife specialists throughout the summer who can share their expertise. We also discovered the field journal of legendary Berwick cryptozoologist Elizabeth Fairbanks among our local history items at the library. Her research on cryptids will help you determine if any of the evidence we collected belongs to a known cryptid, like Bigfoot. Elizabeth's journal is available to read in person at the library, and we have a digital copy available on our website.

Our Cryptid Hunters storyline and activities are meant to be completed at the library, but alternative activities are available on our website for anyone who wants to play along at home.

Our first piece of evidence that we are investigating is a feather. Could it be from Mothman? Or a hawk? The Center for Wildlife will be visiting us on June 16th at 5pm to talk about birds of prey. We also have Elizabeth's journal to help us learn more about feathered cryptids like Mothman.

Complete the puzzle below to figure out who the feather belongs to! And be sure to stop by the library to investigate the feather in person, examine Elizabeth's field journal, and complete a different puzzle.

What was the conclusion to your investigation? Was it Mothman's feather after all? After you solve this week's puzzle, check in with a staff member at the library to receive a sticker to keep in the field journal section of your tracker form. And don't forget to try the in-person activity we have available, too!

We'll have new activities available every week, both in the library and on our website. Past activities will remain available throughout the duration of the summer reading program, so, if you miss a week, you can easily catch up!
