Charles Read isn't well known today, but during the US Civil War he had an action packed naval career. This included playing a part in local history when he managed to bring the war directly to New England and Maine. This lecture with Dr. Michael Schroeder goes into Read's career, including his short 'visit' to Portland, Maine.
