Week 5

1930

You arrive in Harlem in 1930. The noises of the city surround you, and you quickly become disoriented. Looking for a quiet place to gather your thoughts, you slip into a local jazz café. To your surprise, it's packed with people gathered around the stage, listening to the latest hit from none other than Duke Ellington himself! â€‹

Picking up on a pattern when it comes to collecting the essences, you follow Duke to his dressing room once he goes on his break. Something of his must contain the essence you are looking for; perhaps his sheet music? You explain to him what you are in search of and offer your assistance with anything he needs in return.

"Lucky for you, I have just the job," he says.  "I am absolutely famished, but I don't have time to grab lunch before my next set. There is a special ramen recipe that allows me to play my best, but my competitors have been after the ingredient list for years. Here is an encoded list of what I need. To crack the code, you might need to think like a musician does. Good luck, and hurry up! My stomach is eating itself!"

With a steaming bowl of ramen in hand, you quickly give it to Mr. Ellington. After a quick bite, he smiles wide. "Perfection! This is the best bowl I've had in weeks! This is the latest song I've come up with," he says, handing you some sheet music. "Maybe it'll have that essence you're looking for."
